A Good Catch
I joined a softball team three weeks ago.
We count off into two teams, play with no ball or strike count, however many innings we feel, spend most of our time joshing the ball in the outfield. We go to our sponsor, the bar, afterward.
I play right field because there's not action and I'm not skilled. Yesterday I was idling, looking at park trees and liking the sun. A boy hit a high ball toward me.
I can't report processing: Ball coming, I must get under, I'm nervous, oh. I just know that I caught it, it was high and it made a solid smack into my mitt. The outfield boys looked in surprise. It was my first catch.
